About Us
Established in 1976, by Bill and Lois Keb, Kamaaina Woods, Inc, occupies an old soda works building which was built in the early 30's. The warehouse appearance of the building has remained, but the contents have changed considerably! It is now the home of the factory located in the back of the building, the gift shop in the middle and the Keb's home all around! From 9-5 everyday expect Sundays, the public can come in and shop. A little confusing, for the living room is adjacent to the gift shop,but its comfortable for those who would rather sit while companions shop.
Location
The location is in Honokaa, on the Big Island of Hawaii. A small old plantation town (sugar used to grow everywhere around the area). The buildings reminiscent to the old west, our one main street has many shops to satisfy the curious shopper. However, down around the corner a third mile below the post office on Lehua Street is where Kamaaina Woods, Inc is,and that's the best place to shop particularly if you like wood. Hawaii has some of the most gorgeous woods of the world growing here and we make products to share, enjoy and treasure right here on the premises.
Our Products
Kamaaina Woods, Inc. specializes in bowls. Shaped simply in the Hawaiian calabash style, all handcrafted from the raw logs to the finished product. Bowls of all sizes to use and/or admire. There are many other items we make here: home and the only place to find the original Hawaiian "Huli Hands" which are trademarked and the greatest salad, pasta or stir fry tossers you'll ever use. (You'll find the thin flat imitations but beware, they are not the same at all). We also make the Hawaiian Moon, which is a charming crescent-shaped wine cradle. Additional items from the factory are traditional salad servers, cutting boards, rice paddles etc. Most of the products made here are only sold here. You have to come, call, or order via our web site to purchase a Kamaaina Woods product.
Other Products
Hawaii is also gifted with many talented woodworkers. We carry many of their products made here in Hawaii. Things that we don't make ourselves. You will find boxes, trays, carvings, laser-created carvings, a small selection of end tables and plant stands, office accessories, frames and even koa-billed baseball caps and visors (with aloha print fabric) all made in Hawaii and most here on the Big Island. We are very proud of our selection and can truthfully say it is all made here in Hawaii. Come and enjoy our shop and our treasures which can be yours as well. If we don't have the bowl your looking for on the shelf,we can make it with Aloha.
